Suitable For Birthdays Or Any Occasion
Are you wondering what to make for winter-themed birthdays or parties? Snowmen Rice Krispies be a great surprise.
Mixing the ingredients and assembling the little snowmen takes a little time. Children happily help make such simple recipes, and eating up parts of the snowmen will be exciting.
Little Cleaning
Some spilling of the Rice Krispies cereals may happen as a few helpers are still developing their fine motor skills. It takes less than a minute to wipe the counter.
The dishes used in this recipe are very few. This was exciting news to my daughter, who was to clean the dishes that day.
Creativity At Its Best
The most exciting part of this recipe is the assembly of the snowmen! I had made early preparations and bought a few supplies we could use to make the features on our snowmen.
The kids cheerfully participated in assembling the snowmen. They were fascinated by the yummy outcome. With candy strips forming the mouth and chocolate chips the buttons, the children's excitement and anticipation warmed the cold winter weather!
The ingredients are :
Rice Krispies
All other ingredients bind to the Rice Krispies. They form the primary structure of the treats. This recipe requires about 4 cups of the airy cereals.
Butter
Butter adds moisture to the rice Krispies, making them soft and chewy. The butter gives the treats a rich milky flavor.
Marshmallows (preferably mini-sized)
These contain the sugar that sweetens the treats and the gelatin that becomes gooey, sticky, and stretchy when melted. This property binds the rice Krispies together.
Candies
We used candy strips, chocolate chips, and colored Rice Krispies to form the snowman's features.
Vanilla essence
Although adding this essence might be optional, it gives the Rice Krispies treats an exquisite aroma.
Note: If you use unsalted butter, you could sprinkle a pinch of salt while combining the cream and the Rice Krispies.

How To Make It
The recipe involves melting butter and marshmallows into a smooth-flowing cream. The cream is poured into a round mixing bowl containing the Rice Krispies. Gently mix the Rice Krispies with the cream till all the Rice Krispies are coated by the cream.
Transfer each bowl's mixture to the greased tray and gently press each layer until the top of the tray.
Once the mixture is set, transfer it to a chopping board. Using round cookie cutters, cut out circle shapes. One size should be smaller than the other. The smaller ones form the head, while the bigger ones form the body.
Use a toothpick to connect the snowman's head and body parts. Carefully place it on a plate and begin to decorate. Use chocolate chips to form the eyes and buttons. Use Candy strips to create the mouth, arms, and legs. My daughter surprised me by using colored
Rice Krispies that we had left from a previous recipe to form the nose. You are free to decorate with what you have available.
More About The Equipment
Saucepan: a heavy-based pan is a plus in the recipe as it ensures the butter and marshmallows do not burn quickly.
Spatula: an excellent tool for scraping all the creamy mixture from the mixing bowl, thereby not wasting any ingredients.
Mixing bowls; a wide round bowl is the best choice because mixing is easy, and none of the mixtures remains in the corners.
Baking tray: a shallow non-stick is suitable for setting the mixture.
Chopping board: a sturdy chopping board is required to be used to cut out the desired shapes.
Substitution
Marshmallows
Marshmallows are an essential ingredient since they act as a binding agent. However, other ingredients, such as honey, maple syrup, date paste, or even tamarind paste, could be used instead of marshmallows.
Butter
Butter adds moisture to the recipe. It can be substituted with coconut oil, peanut butter, or almond butter.
Candies/Chocolate Chips
These are used for decorating snowmen. You can use mini M and Ms for buttons or any type of candy to form the smile!
Rice Krispies
Rice Krispies form the most basic structure of the recipe. They can be substituted with toasted oats, cornflakes, or granola.

Expert Tips
It is advisable to make a very thin layer of Rice Krispies on the setting tray. A thin layer will allow most standard-sized cookie cutters to cut through neatly.
Another way of going around this is to stuff the Rice Krispie marshmallow mixture into a cookie cutter and let it set. This method gives you neater edges for the snowmen.
Rice Krispies are very light and airy. It is essential to remember to use the spatula while mixing gently; otherwise, most of the Rice Krispies will spill out of the bowl. Spilling causes a mess and wastage too.
