Measure out the ingredients and set them aside in a bowl
Over low heat in a heavy-based saucepan, melt butter, then add ½ a cup of chocolate chips.
With a spatula, stir continuously until all the chocolate chips have melted and formed a chocolate mixture, and add in the vanilla extract at this point.
