This British classic cookie was made popular because of one of my son’s favorite comic series Buenos. Roger the Dodger was definitely the best character who’d influence him to dodge his house chores 😀 as well.

Three Jammie Dodgers and a cup of coffee.

I got tired of buying Jammie Dodgers for him. It was time for this home cook to flex her culinary muscles and make them at home! I would bake them every Christmas and oh my son longed for the season.

Jammie Dodgers is a sort of cross between a sugar cookie and a shortcake because of the kind of texture they have. The beautiful cookie is made of two cookies that are sandwiched with raspberry jam.

What makes them very appealing is the tiny hole in the middle of the top cookie. The cookie usually has a heart shape or circle but the classic jammie has a love heart in the middle.

Jammie Dodgers next to a cup of coffee.

Baking these treats is not a very hard task, just a little bit of patience is required 🙂.

These cookies will always fly off the serving tray faster than the rest. They are extremely irresistible, the moist and fruity jam at the center just lifts the cookies to another pedestal.

Making Jammie Dodgers with fresh jam gives the best version of these cookies. This copycat recipe will give you the best Jammie Dodgers that you will ever make.

    Why I love this recipe

    • It is simple to make
    • It is a quick recipe
    • It calls for simple ingredients
    • Cookies have a unique combination of flavor and texture

    Ingredients And Substitutions

A bunch of ingredients in glass bowls.

All-purpose flour works perfectly fine in this recipe, though you could replace it with gluten-free flour.

Butter adds an amazing flavor and moisture to the cookies. Using butter gives the cookies an unmatched aroma.

Sugar adds a depth of sweetness, I love making homemade Jammie Dodgers as I have an opportunity to regulate the level of sweetness, thereby saving cavities 😀

Raspberry jam has a tangy taste that balances out perfectly with sugary cookie dough. You use your preferred choice of fruit jam.

    FAQ: Homemade Jammie Dodgers

    Cookies on a baking tray.

    What makes flat Jammie Dodgers?

If you notice, the cookie recipe does not have any leavening agent. Do not be tempted to add baking powder 🙂.

This omission makes them beautifully flat. Make sure to bake the cookies at the optimal temperature.

Invest in an oven thermometer to bake the cookies at the recommended temperature.

How should I store Homemade Jammie Dodgers?

The best way to store the Jammie Dodgers is in an airtight container. They can stay fresh at room temperature for 4 days but a week when refrigerated.

Can I use a different kind of jam in my homemade Jammie Dodgers

Oh yes, feel free to use your favorite type of jam. I love pineapple jam, for a change of color try this version. This is the fun part of the recipe!

    The Process

A mixer with yellow dough in it.

Cream the sugar, butter, eggs and whisk.

A bowl of dough and jam in bowls.

Chill the dough for 30 mins.

A cookie dough with a yellow plastic mold.

Deep the cutter in flour & the cut circles.

    Cookies on a baking sheet.

Bake them for 12 to 15 minutes in the middle rack position in the oven.

    CHEF TIPS

Do not overmix or over-knead the cookie dough, this makes the dough rubbery and tough instead of chewy and soft.

Use ingredients at room temperature to get the best results, especially the eggs.

Measure the ingredients accurately. Use the scoop and level method, this way excess flour is returned to the main container. Excess flour alters the temper with the moisture level of the cookies.
