The Krusteaz pancake mix recipe is quite simple to make. You need to simply add water to the pancake mix to make Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix, making it one of the most popular mixes.

It is commonly referred to as the just-add-water mix. It has a specific blend of soft wheat flour and the ideal touch of creamy buttermilk.

The pancake mix can also be used to make krusteaz pancake mix waffles. It's definitely my favorite pancake mix.

    Why the Recipe Works

The recipe works because the pancakes are easy to make and the process of making the pancakes is quite simple. It's one of the pancake mixes that only requires adding water, and the cooking process is simple.

Similarly, the pancakes offer convenience because the expiration date is about a year beyond the purchase day.

The huge bag allows people who eat pancakes often to make the pancakes easily, or for one to easily make a bunch of pancakes for a party or event, especially for Sunday brunch.

The pancakes are also tasty; once cooked, the interior is rich and fluffy, while the exterior is golden brown and slightly crisp.

They have a wonderful flavor with a perfect touch of creamy buttermilk without making them too sweet or heavy. It makes some of the most delicious pancakes.

    Pancake Ingredients

A table with eggs, flour and sugar.

A box of Krusteaz pancake mix

Pancakes rely primarily on flour as their main ingredient. In other words, it is what holds everything together. The flour used affects the structure since some flours absorb more moisture or produce more gluten that binds the structure together than others.

    Soybean Oil or Vegetable oil

Soybean has a clean natural taste and mixes well with other fats to improve the texture of the dough and the overall flavor and "mouthfeel" of the baked good.

    Eggs

You may choose to add eggs, but they aren't necessary for this recipe. Because of their protein content, eggs help the batter hold together.

You can also choose to only use egg whites. The gluten in the flour and water mixture is fortified by the addition of eggs, making for a more flavorful, protein-rich, and less crumbly final result.

    Buttermilk

The buttermilk's acidity activates the baking soda, leading to increased height. It also aids in the gluten's breakdown, which makes for a more delicate and fine crumb.

Butter also gives the classic stack a touch of tanginess, which is exactly what we were going for. You cannot make light and airy pancakes without them.

    Liquid

The batter is thick if the liquid-to-flour ratio is 50/50. The consistency of the batter can be adjusted by adjusting the proportions of the liquid to the flour.

In addition to adding moisture to the batter or dough, liquids also contribute to leavening through the steam produced in the oven.

    The Equipment

A person sifting flour into a bowl.

Pancake Griddle/Pan- A good pan is necessary for easy greasing and flipping of the pancakes ensuring they do not stick. If you choose to make waffles, use a waffle iron.

Weighing Scale- To make pancakes, you need just the right amount of flour and the weighing scale will aid in that.

A Measuring Jug- To avoid making pancakes that are too watery, you will need a measuring jug to get the right amount of water or milk. You can also use your measuring jug to pour your pancake mix into the frying pan carefully.

A Mixing Bowl- To mix together all the pancake ingredients because it holds a lot more pancake mix and gives you a lot more room to avoid a messy mixing accident.

Whisk and Spatula- To mix the pancake mix and remove the pancake from the frying pan onto a plate.

    Substitution

A pancake mix being poured into a frying pan.

    Milk for Water

Milk can be used as a substitute for water as the liquid in the pancake mix. Adding water was their original idea for pancake mix, but people prefer other mixes with added ingredients to suit their taste and texture.

    Applesauce

Many recipes call for eggs or oil, but fruit purees are a popular alternative since they give moisture and a little amount of binding. Pancakes with one egg can be made with ¼ cup of applesauce instead.

    Nut butter

A little bit of melted butter gives a beautiful richness to the flavor and acts as a binder to keep the batter from falling apart. A rich, golden brown hue is another benefit.

A single egg can be substituted with two tablespoons of nut butter. When compared to other nut butter, peanut butter's nutty flavor stands out more.

    Can you Freeze the Pancakes?

Almost every sort of pancake can be frozen and then reheated when needed. Make sure you freeze the pancakes when they are still plain before you add any of your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, butter, fresh berries  or chocolate chips.

Make pancakes according to the instructions in the recipe, and once they are done cooking, allow them to cool completely before placing them in the freezer.

When storing pancakes in the freezer, layer them between sheets of waxed paper in an airtight container or resealable bag. Wrap it up, then stick it in the freezer for up to two months.

    How to Store Krusteaz Pancakes

A bunch of pancakes in a freezer bag.

Once cooked, pancakes have high durability and can be stored in several different ways. The most important thing to remember while keeping pancakes is to wait until they have cooled to room temperature before placing them in the refrigerator to have them the next time.

Hot pancakes create condensation, which causes sogginess if stored. Pancakes can be stored in the refrigerator in either an airtight container or a foil packet. You may safely store pancakes in the fridge for up to a week. Pancakes can be made in bulk and then frozen for later use.

Simply place them in a freezer-safe bag after being tightly wrapped in plastic. In that condition, they will last for three months. They can be thawed and reheated.

Putting something frozen into the toaster and reheating it should work, but you must increase the cooking time by 30 to 60 seconds.

    FAQ

After opening, how long does Krusteaz pancake mix last?

The best results may be expected from pancake mix for at least a couple of months after the expiration date has passed (often 6-12 months).
If you are unsure as to whether or not yours is still in working order, you can put it to the test by making a few pancakes.

Should I refrigerate my Krusteaz pancake mix?

Storing pancake mix in the fridge is not recommended. This is because a refrigerator has high relative humidity, which causes the milk powder to get wet and start going bad.
The dampness may also activate the leavening agent in the pancake mix.

Can you substitute milk for the water in Krusteaz?

Even if the mix package specifies water, you may easily swap it out for milk.

Due to the change in consistency, you may need to add a bit extra, but the end result will be well worth it.

    Expert Tips

Throw in some club soda for flavor- Pancakes made from scratch have an airy interior since the batter has more time to rise.

You may achieve a similar effect by adding around a tablespoon of club soda per person. The carbonation will aid in the raising process, resulting in those delicious, tender pancakes.
