Happy Holidays are here. It is now time to make those delicious treats that mark the season and make it memorable. Nothing can replace moments seated by the fireplace as we enjoy this dessert with family.

A plate with chocolate desserts and candy cane.

My family eagerly waits for the time when I will make these delicious and attractive snacks. I love giving them as gifts as well. My generous 10-year-old delights in delivering them to the old lady who lives down the street and a homeless family that has a child of her age.

Each year we keep changing the surprises inside the ‘bombs’ but this version makes everybody smile with delight. You surely want to find what is nestled inside the chocolate balls.

We have delicious recipes that will definitely please your folks, try our Peanut Butter Blossom Cookie Gnomes and Ginger Bread Brownies without Chocolate.

Why this recipe works for me.

A chocolate egg with a scoop of ice cream inside.

    It is fast to make

Fixing these bombs does not require military skill 😀. Simple steps are involved in making these holiday treats. No baking is involved, just melting the chocolate! This takes a short time to do!

    Delicious textures and flavors

The chocolate forms a delicate and brittle coat that melts and breaks beautifully like an iceberg in warming ocean water. The chocolate skins and creamy vanilla ice cream blend perfectly.

    What you need: Equipment

Chocolate mold, water bath or microwave, coffee maker, glass, straw, or dessert spoon.

    The Ingredients

A table with different types of ingredients.

    Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate is melted and used to make the chocolate spheres. Use High-quality chocolate for best results. White chocolate can be used as a substitute or you could creatively mix the two kinds of chocolate.

    Vanilla ice cream

Soft and velvety vanilla ice cream is scooped into half of the sphere. It eventually melts into the hot coffee, sweetening the dessert.

    Candy canes

The season isn't complete without a few crude candies.

    Peppermint syrup

Peppermint syrup has an amazing flavor and complements the earthy coffee flavor.

    3 cups of strong coffee

Affogato is a popular Italian dessert, the strong coffee flavor is sweetened by the ice cream. Coffee can be substituted with hot chocolate.

How to make Peppermint Affogato Chocolate Bombs.

A bowl of brown cake mix.

What makes this Affogato unique is that the ice cream is held in a sphere of chocolate. The traditional Affogato doesn't have the chocolate bombs. The chocolate flavor makes the dessert exceptionally special.

First, you will begin by melting the chocolate chunks in a water bath (you can use a microwave method). Stir to ensure all chunks have melted. Use a clean paintbrush to apply the chocolate onto your chocolate mold. Set aside for the chocolate to dry and set.

Carefully peel off the mold from the set chocolate. Scoop some ice cream and fill one half of the sphere. Heat a skillet on medium heat, gently place the empty half sphere on the skillet to slightly melt the edges.

A red mold of chocolate bombs.

Sprinkle some crushed candy cane on the ice cream and cover by attaching the half-empty sphere. Pipe some melted chocolate around the sphere and sprinkle some green and sprinkle.

Place your cup under your coffee machine, half-fill your cup with hot coffee, and stir in a teaspoon of peppermint syrup.

Gently place the chocolate bombs in the coffee. Serve with some more sprinkled candy cane. Enjoy the delightful coffee and ice cream dessert on a chilly winter night.

    FAQ Peppermint Affogato Chocolate Bombs.

A plate of dessert and a cup of coffee.

Can I freeze the chocolate bombs/balls?

Oh yes, the chocolate balls freeze beautifully. You can make several of them and use them during the holiday season.

These balls make amazing gifts that you can share and make someone’s plain coffee special.

Is it possible to use homemade peppermint syrup?

Sure enough, if you have missed the syrup in the grocery store, worry not. It is easy to make homemade peppermint syrup. You need 1 cup of water, 1 ½ cup of peppermint extract, and 1 cup of sugar.

All these ingredients are boiled in a saucepan until all the sugar is dissolved and begins to thicken. Use the syrup to flavor the coffee.
